Getting Ready for the Art Sale - You're Invited!
My aunt and cousin host an art sale at their houses every year. My aunt is a print and book artist, and my cousin beads, crochets and makes cards. Also, my uncle is a photographer and sells beautiful cards. I contribute with what they fancily have deemed, "fabric arts". This is the second year that they've let me tag along, so I've been busy, busy, busy at the sewing machine.
So far I have 12 zippered wristlets (tutorial next week, I promise!)
A bunch of fancy little ruffled pillows made with Pop Garden. The tutorial on these is here.
The sale is the first weekend in December - Saturday and Sunday. If you are in the Portland area (that's Portland, Oregon) and would like to come, leave me a comment and a way to contact you. I'll send you an invitation. Actually, to be accurate the sale is in Salem on Saturday and in Portland on Sunday.

Out of the Closet
Last summer, I wrote a post about my sewing closet. It was cramped but functional. This is what it used to look like:
The sewing table was my grandmother's treadle machine. I couldn't even get me knees under it and had to sit at a weirdly twisted position.
I moved everything out in order to paint and improve the space. Meanwhile, I set up a temporary sewing space in the big basement room nearby, and realized that I really liked having all that space. But now that all of my sewing and craft supplies were in the same room as the kids toys, the treadmill, the corner office desk and the television, it was a MESS!
There's room for sewing, cutting AND pressing all on the same table.

So I sorted and folded as much as I could, but I really couldn't make things work without some proper furniture. The husband axed my requests for a corner desk on Craig's list, and I was the bigger person by accepting that. Also, I did NOT bring up any golf equipment purchases.
But the thrifting gods were with me that same day when my friend and I went to the fund-raising rummage sale for Caitlin-Gabel school. As we walked into the Expo center, the first thing I saw was a big corner desk, made of white laminate for $18. And it wasn't even trashed!
Here is my sewing space as of today:

The Bright Side Project
If you haven't heard of The Bright Side Project, here's a little gift from me to you. Miss B. and Miss K. give away cool things EVERY day - no strings attached. Don't be so skeptical now. It's just one of those good things!
I won't go into their reasons - you can read them for yourself on their site. When you enter make sure you check the winners box. They won't notify winners any other way, and if your name sits in the box for a week, someone can swipe your prize.
