THE Sewing Menu

I've come to the conclusion that I'm wasting a lot of money buying things for projects that never get completed. Taking a cue from the times when we're organized and plan meal menus, I've decided to challenge myself to a sewing menu that runs through the end of summer.

I have materials for most of these already, minus a few buttons and thread and stuff like that.

Here's the plan for April:

WEEK 1 - Easter Bunnies for the kids from this pattern:

from Retro Mama

Don't these make you want to go "Awwwww"? I'm just using up my own scraps for these. I'll let you know how they turn out.

WEEK 2 - Finish my Rooibus dress.

from Colette patterns
I ran out of interfacing and put this off to the side about a month ago. It'll be done by the end of April.....I swear.

I've planned all of my projects until the middle of August. I'm going to post the list on the side in an attempt to resolve my sewing ADD and quit throwing money around at Joannes (and fabric.com and sewmamasew.com and Bolt......)

Wish me luck!

  1. Wowzers! I'm impressed at your organization. I try to keep a running list of future projects on the bulletin board over my sewing machine. I don't always go in order and I don't put deadlines but it does keep me from getting too off track. So far it hasn't kept me from spending money on new fabric though. Just got some Denyse Schmidt and Lisette fabrics from JoAnns this week (blog post about that coming soon).

Taking any MD classes this summer?

  2. Great idea! Even if you don't stick to it 100% you're bound to get quite a bit done rather than nothing at all.

  3. So ambitious. I've already started my to-do list for the summer. The wisest thing I can do is recycle it. Too much pressure. Just in case that happens to you, I give you permission to abandon your plan and buy materials for spontaneous projects! (And in the meantime will fully support the menu-plan approach.)

Thanks for the comment about geography of childhood...I was trying to decide which of his books to read; now I've got a place to start.
